Masterclasses
Alongside our comprehensive curriculum, our instructors regularly teach masterclasses in their personal areas of expertise. Here are a few examples of the types of Masterclasses we offer to enrolled students.
Beat Making/ Production
Many of our Instructors are producers and beatmakers in their own right. They have placements with signed artists under their belt and want to share their creative process with you. Join Trae or Edgar as they produce an original beat from scratch, every instructor has their own process, and attending Masterclasses with different instructors is a great way to learn new ways of working and broaden your creative horizons.
Microphone Technique
One of our most popular rotating masterclasses is on microphones. We cover a brief overview of the history of microphones, the differences between Dynamic, Condenser, Ribbon, and Tube Microphones, and the strengths and weaknesses of each. Engine Room Audio is home to a large arsenal of new and vintage microphones including an ELAM Telephunken 251, Vintage Neumann U87, Sony C800, and more. Students will get hands-on experience setting up and properly handling these mics and learn when and where to effectively use them.
Music Business
We offer special Q&A-style lectures hosted by our own Studio Manager, Scott Lee. Scott is one of the principals of Bond Street Artist Management and has worked on numerous Gold and Platnum Records, including releases by SWV, Johnny Gill, Tyrese, B2K, Brian McKnight, Petey Pablo, and Faith Evans. These lessons provide invaluable insights into the business side of the music industry and fill up quickly when announced. During these sessions, students will gain practical knowledge in areas such as artist management, music publishing, marketing strategies, and legal essentials.
